Project name: CashBack to Belonging: Healing, Learning and Integration for Ukrainian Youth
Age range: 10-25 years
CashBack to Belonging: Healing, Learning and Integration for Ukrainian Youth offers trauma-informed support, predominately in Glasgow, for displaced Ukrainian children and young people, living in Scotland, and aged 10 to 25. Many will have experienced war, sudden displacement, educational disruption and social isolation, putting them at risk of emotional distress and exclusion from school and community life.
The project begins with individual assessments conducted by trained bilingual mental health professionals to identify each young person’s emotional, social and educational needs. Based on these assessments, participants will receive an individual support plan. This may include small group therapy sessions, one-on-one mentoring, resilience and emotional skills workshops, creative and recreational activities and peer-led support groups.
Activities take place in familiar community settings and are delivered by qualified staff supported by trained volunteers. Young people are offered safe, structured spaces where they can build positive relationships, manage emotions and develop coping skills. Family support activities, including parent-child sessions, are provided to strengthen the home environment and improve wellbeing. The project supports young people in their learning engagement and transitions, working closely with families, schools and local services. Where additional needs are identified, families will be referred to appropriate specialist or community support.
By providing early, holistic and culturally sensitive support, the project helps young people avoid isolation and harmful coping behaviours, reconnect with education and community life, and develop long-term resilience and a sense of belonging.
