Project name: RUTS CashBack Academies

Age range: 12-18 years

The RUTS CashBack Academies deliver a practical, mobile programme supporting young people aged 14-17 across 4 Local Authorities who are at risk of disengaging from school, becoming involved in antisocial behaviour, or entering the justice system.

Each academy provides twelve structured sessions delivered to three groups (1.5 hours each) once weekly, during the school day. Sessions focus on motorbikes, mountain bikes, and non-contact boxing. Each academy supports around 21 young people. By taking equipment, including our mobile workshop, and trained staff directly into schools, the programme removes barriers to participation and ensures support is offered where young people feel comfortable and able to engage.

Sessions are practical, youth-led, and designed to build confidence, improve wellbeing, and reduce risk-taking behaviours. Young people can work towards recognised qualifications and are supported to move into further training, education, volunteering, or employment.

The programme is rooted in strong engagement between staff, schools, and young people. Schools identify those who will benefit most and help create a safe, consistent environment. Trainers build trusted relationships through regular, interactive sessions, helping young people stay motivated and connected. This close partnership allows the programme to respond quickly to individual needs, sustain attendance, and encourage positive routines.

Through structured activities and strong local partnerships, the project offers meaningful alternatives to boredom and isolation, helping young people recognise their value, strengthen community connections, and make positive choices.
