Number of Young People Project expected to work with: 1,600
A multi-layered, progression and outcome focused arts project, for young people (aged 12 – 24 years) in the Highlands. Working with a network of partners who support young people and families who have, or are at risk of, encountering crime, the project aimed to help reduce offending, strengthen our communities and improve lives.
Open Studio @ Eden Court: Young people, identified by partners, would work with a professional audio producer and a filmmaker to build creative and technical skills, which can be used in a variety of industries.
Next Steps Programme: Participants were able to build their skills further by joining a multi-art form three to five-day ‘Next Steps Project’.
Partner Referral Pathway Blocks: Six-week blocks of full day sessions at Eden Court were run in partnership with specific agencies to meet the needs of the young people they support. These small groups focussed on creative and social skills development.
Young Promoters: Each summer two CashBack participants were to be offered paid opportunities to programme an evening in Eden Court’s summer venue ‘Under Canvas’.
Artists in Residence: Two artists in residence were to work with young people to create a programme of community activities, responding to how they feel about where they come from and challenging the communities’ perceptions of young people and contribution they make.
The programme was designed to empower young people, to feel more confident, to learn new skills and to aspire to look positively at their futures. It was to offer a pathway for progression with opportunities to gain a recognised Arts Award, to showcase work and provide funds to help access other creative experiences.
Areas where project was to be delivered:
Highland – Merkinch, Alness, Inverness City Centre, Dalneigh, Hilton, Raigmore.
