Project name: CashBack: Òigridh Cothrom
Age range: 11-25 years
The project is delivered in the Uists, through a full time youth worker who runs daily classes, builds relationships with young people aged 11-25, and acts as a consistent, trusted adult. They reach out to young people through organisations such as our youth café and the secondary school in Benbecula, and local 3rd sector groups which nominate young people to us.
Early sessions focus on building trust through informal conversations, taster activities, and small group workshops. Our youth worker supports young people to create a simple personal development plan that describes what they want to learn, what support they need, and what skills or interests they want to explore. The project then offers a mix of practical learning, cultural activities, group sessions, and one to one support. This can include craft sessions, outdoor activities, basic work skills, creative projects, and wellbeing support. Activities are flexible so the youth worker can adapt them for different ages, confidence levels, and abilities.
Throughout the programme, the youth worker stays closely connected to families, schools, health workers, and other community services to make sure support is joined up and nothing is missed. Young people will be encouraged to help shape the programme, suggest new ideas, and take on small leadership roles as their confidence grows. Progress is reviewed regularly with each young person, and their feedback will be used to keep improving the programme. The project runs continuously over the three year period, with open access so young people can join whenever they need support.
