Barnardo’s Scotland’s CashBack programme includes two strands: Head2Work and The Anchor.

Head2Work Through CashBack

Head2Work is an integrated personal development, health, and employability project for young people aged 14-21. Our tailored activities have been co-designed with young people to deliver intensive one-to-one support and an interactive 8 week programme.

Head2Work focuses on three key areas of support:

  • Health and wellbeing
Young people participate in a range of fun activities promoting healthy lifestyles, developed with participants. For example: group activities, mindfulness, meditation, cooking, dance, creating films or music, and exercise.
  • Money management
Our bespoke money management programme, developed with Hymens Robertson, supports young people to develop key financial and life skills.
  • Personal and skills development
We deliver activities to build soft, core, and vocational skills, and support young people to gain accreditations. For example: work placements and volunteering opportunities, CV and interview techniques, and employer visits.

On completion of the programme, young people are offered in-work support and guidance, or ongoing employability support.

The Anchor Highland CashBack

The Anchor is a community hub based in Inverness. Our targeted outreach and response team supports young people subjected to exploitation aged 13-18.

The Anchor focuses on three key areas of support:

  • Street work
Our team build trusting relationships through street work by identifying needs and providing information and advice.
  • Alternative space
The Anchor Hub building is accessible evenings and weekends, offering a safe space and hot food and refreshments. This reduces the number young people gathering in unsafe locations. We also provide telephone and text services.
  • Trauma informed, rights based, relational approach
By listening to young people, we promote their strengths and what matters to them. This helps us deliver timely, responsive support to reduce the risk of problems escalating and statutory intervention.

The Anchor is part of a wider Highland partnership, facilitating access to support including: education, training and employment, health services, first aid, sexual health, naloxone and Through Care, After Care Pathways.
