Project name: CashBack VOW
Age range: 10-25 years
CashBack VOW is a project led by Police in partnership with Aid and Abet.
The team is based in Edinburgh uses a unique staffing model: Police Officers work with Mentors, who have lived experience of the criminal justice system. The aim of the team is to identify and support young people, aged 10-25, who are involved in or on the periphery of criminality and/or anti-social behaviour. CashBack VOW aims to achieve complete cessation of offending by individuals regularly coming to Police attention by supporting them to improve their lives.
The Mentors and Officers focus on creating a meaningful connection with the young people through participating in shared experiences and offering appropriate support and guidance based on their individual needs. We build a bespoke support plan focused on achievable outcomes, led by the young person’s goals and interests.
Partners and contractors are utilised to provide skill development and bespoke support including counselling, music lessons, personal training, skills for employment and more.
We support clients through drug and alcohol recovery and onto training and employment through meaningful engagement.
All engagement is two to one (one mentor and one police officer paired with a young person). This focused time allows a person-centred approach, ensuring the specific, unique needs of each young person are considered and met.
