Title of Project – Generation CashBack
Theme – Diversionary Youth Work
Target Group – Young people disadvantaged by:-
- Living in areas of deprivation; and
- Being unemployed, not in education or training; and
- Being excluded, or at risk of exclusion from school; and
- Being at risk of being involved in antisocial behaviour, offending/re-offending
Age range : 10 to 24 years
Number of Young People project expects to work with : 6,100
Summary of Project
The project will be delivered by Youth Scotland within a consortium consisting of: Youth Scotland, Girlguiding Scotland (GG), Boys’ Brigade (BB) and Scouts Scotland (SS). Generation CashBack will be managed by Youth Scotland, but will be co-delivered by Consortium members.
A Scotland wide delivery will be achieved through proactive support delivered by Local Development Officers (LDOs) in a new outward looking approach for the Consortium, ensuring reach into new communities and to young people not currently able to access these opportunities.
Grants to Establish New Groups (Generation CashBack: Start Up) – 60 new self-sustaining groups will be established in Scotland’s most deprived communities offering programmes of engaging activities that deliver achievement and skills not previously available. This work will be proactively delivered with the support of LDO offering up to £2,000 to support establishment costs and leave a self-sustaining delivery infrastructure. 900 YP benefit.
Grants to Existing Groups for new activities (Generation CashBack: Grow) – 210 groups and units in Scotland’s most deprived communities will introduce new and broader volunteering, participation, training and leadership opportunities to grow and develop achievement and skills of young people with proactive support from LDOs. GC Ignite will provide up to £3,000 to resource these new activities. 4,200 young people benefit.
Leadership and Employability skills (Generation CashBack: Lead) – 700 young people in Scotland’s most deprived communities and in Young Offenders Institutions will experience new training to upskill and improve their self confidence, increasing their learning, leadership skills and employability. Delivery is open to young people out with Consortium membership.
Training options will include:
– Health & Wellbeing Mentoring/Sport and Dance Leadership/Decision Making Skills/First Aid Training/Social Action Training
– Leadership Skills/Community Consultation Training/Peer assessment Training/Media Skills
Generation CashBack National Events – 300 young people will benefit from these events which will provide a platform for celebrating attainment and achievement, and for young people to apply the skills learnt through delivery of peer training. These events will be a key focus for CashBack profile-raising These events will be facilitated and delivered by the young people who have been beneficiaries of GC Aspire offering progression, testing the skills gained, and passing them on to new beneficiaries. Delegates will be welcomed from out with Consortium membership.
Areas where the project will be delivered
All 32 local authority areas in Scotland will be able to benefit from this funding. To reach areas of deprivation in every Local Authority, this project will offer opportunities to those that fall in the top 20% most deprived data zones in Scotland, and within each Local Authority Area. A spreadsheet of postcodes that fall into this category has been developed and will be used in the analysis of beneficiaries. Young people that are at risk of being involved in antisocial behaviour, offending or re-offending will be reached through the Polmont project.
