Broad Participation

CashBack helps fund a network of around 85 rugby development officers who deliver activities in over 1000 primary schools, and 300 secondary schools, across all 32 local authority areas.

In primary schools, pupils take part in blocks of taster sessions designed to introduce them to rugby, improve their skills, and encourage them to participate in festivals, games, and ultimately join a local rugby club.

In secondary schools the development officers (DO) support PE staff to deliver curricular taster sessions, extra curricular training, fixtures, tournaments and leadership/coaching opportunities for senior pupils, leading to long term involvement in the sport.

Clubs are also supported by the Development Officer network, with volunteer development and coaching provided to help clubs accommodate increasing numbers of young people who are recruited through the schools programme. The programme has seen a steady increase in the number of young people participating in rugby on a regular basis in clubs and schools.
