Justice Secretary Visits Edinburgh Police Station to Support CashBack VOW Project

20th September 2021

Justice Secretary Keith Brown met with a team of police officers and peer mentors at Edinburgh’s West End Police Station on August 12th, as part of the ongoing commitment to the CashBack VOW Project.

Based in Edinburgh, the CashBack VOW Project is a police-led partnership initiative funded by CashBack for Communities. It aims to reduce offending and re-offending, support young people towards positive destinations and outcomes, and reduce drug-related harm in the community.

During his visit, the Justice Secretary met with the police officers and mentors to discuss how best to support young people to achieve these aims.

The VOW Project is one of two CashBack and Police Scotland partnership projects designed to support young people at risk of criminal behaviour. The VOW project is collaborative, and is unique in that its peer mentors all have lived experience of the Criminal Justice System, meaning they are better able to relate to the experiences of the young people the project reaches. By empowering at-risk young people to make positive choices, the project helps to divert them away from criminal activity towards a brighter future.
