Theme – Diversionary Youth Work
Target Group – Young people disadvantaged by: –
- Living in areas of deprivation; and
- Being unemployed, not in education or training; and
- Being excluded, or at risk of exclusion from school; and
- Being at risk of being involved in antisocial behaviour, offending/re-offending
Age range : 16 to 19 years
Number of Young People the project expects to work with : 288
Summary of Project
The project will consist of 36 x 5 day residential voyages over the 3-year period (12 each year). Young people who are referred from local authority social work partners and currently not in employment, education or training or have been identified as highly disengaged within the education system will through the challenge of adventure under sail achieve various SQA level qualifications.
Areas where the young people will come from
OYT Scotland will work closely with Local Authorities key workers to identify disadvantaged young people from the most deprived areas across Scotland. They will target the following local authorities: – Aberdeen, Argyll & Bute, Dumfries & Galloway, Dundee, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Lothian, East Renfrewshire, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Fife, Glasgow, Highland, Inverclyde, Midlothian, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Perth & Kinross, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, West Dunbartonshire and West Lothian.
